Dinner with Dylan

"Italian and Indian," says Alan looking around the restaurant. He chuckles and gives Tony a grin. "I'm impressed you found this place. I never would have thought there was a restaurant that served both."

"And if Dylan doesn't like either," says Tony and gestures at the door to the outside, "We're close to were he works, so he can just take us somewhere he knows."

"That works. And I've got the list of places we're checking out, so we can show it too him when he comes."

A little while later, Dylan arrives. He's wearing a turquoise shirt that complements his eyes, neatly-pressed khakis and polished dress shoes.

Spotting Tony and Alan, he smiles and waves. "Hi!" He looks around, inhaling appreciatively. "Nice place - it smells good."

"It's Tony's find," says Alan, giving credit where it's due. "He likes Italian food."

"It makes me think of going visiting relatives," Tony says. He flashes Dylan a grin. "Alan likes Indian food."

Alan chuckles. "Yep. And I just noticed there's a buffet tonight."

"Hey, if I gotta pay, I'm going to get my money's worth," says Tony.

A little later...
A woman with long dark hair and emerald green eyes enters the restaurant, holding the door open for someone behind her.
"Nice place," she says to the person behind her. "What were you thinking of getting?"

Re: A little later...
Tony notices the woman enter and stops loading his plate from the buffet in order to check her out. Alan is also at the buffet and notices Tony's distraction. He looks over too and his plate loading stops as he waits for her to turn his way so he can confirm his guess that it is Miki's friend, the young Warden he met about three years ago.

Re: A little later...
Miki practically bounces through the door the other woman holds open for her, her face wreathed in a huge smile. "Can we get samosas? Oh, and the chicken korma is to die for!" She barely pauses for breath before continuing, "And you have just got to try the gajar ka halwa!"

Looking around the restaurant excitedly, she spots Alan and Tony and her eyes light up. "Hi, guys! Wow, you run into everyone here!" She turns to the other woman. "Ciara, this is Alan and Tony - the ones I was telling you about." Then she notices Dylan. "Who's your friend?" she asks Alan and Tony, giving the other young man a friendly smile.

Re: A little later...
"This is Dylan," says Alan. "He's thinking of getting a place with us," Alan says, indicating Tony as part of the 'us.'

"This is Miki, Dylan. Dylan, Miki," says Tony introducing the two. "And who's your friend Miki?" Tony asks.

Re: A little later...
Miki beams, almost glowing with emotion. Someone's feeling cheery.

"Alan, Tony...this is my friend Ciara Ravenscroft, the one I was telling you about the other day. We've known each other since high school." She pauses and turns to Ciara. "Ciara, this is Tony, this is Alan," she pauses and turns to the green-haired young man, "And this is their friend...Dylan, right?"

Once introductions have been made, she asks, "Would you boys like to sit near us?"

Re: A little later...
Ciara exchanges friendly greetings with the three young men.

As she introduces herself to Alan, she looks at him curiously. "Excuse my staring, but you seem familiar. Have we met?"

Alan to Ciara
"About three years ago," replies Alan. "I was probably pretty disheveled and out of it. My grandfather brought me to your brother after I'd gotten bitten by a big bat."

Re: Alan to Ciara
Ciara looks puzzled, then understanding dawns. "Now I remember!" She pauses, then asks, "How are you doing now? I understand that sort of thing can have aftereffects." Pause. "I hear getting extra vitamin D can help, though - sunshine is good for that."

Re: Alan to Ciara
"Yep. Lots of sunshine is good. There are still some effects, but it's all under control. Long story, Tony knows all about it, but it's for some other time though," says Alan.

"I know it's a little late, but I'm sorry about your brother," Alan says. "My grandfather told me about it later. But on a cheeerier note, I understand you're, um, covering the city now?"

Re: Alan to Ciara
Ciara gets a faraway look for a moment at Alan's expression of condolences. "Thanks," she says softly. "I still miss him." She swallows, then puts on a smile. "But yes...I've taken over for Kevin. Sort of a family tradition, you might say."

Later, at the table
"Now that we've had something to eat," says Alan, "We can talk apartments. Tony and I..." Alan looks at Tony as he speaks, catching Tony in the act of picking up Alan's glass.

Tony freezes in Alan's gaze. "Um. Thought it was mine," Tony says, his longing gaze at the glass not helping to convince Alan of his sincerity.

Alan gives Tony a look and removes the glass from his hand. "You know what that'll do to you." He eyes Tony a moment longer. "So, how about you tell about what we've got for apartment canidates."

Tony eyes Alan for a moment, then grins. "Fine. Then it's my take on what we saw."

Tony looks over toward Dylan. "We eliminated some places right off, like the one with the stinky front hall. Alan's favorite is the rooftop greenhouse. It's pretty spacious, it's got a sink and what we could use as shower area. Toilet too. Three walls are glass and the other is the elevator room and stairwell. We'd have to walk up the stairs from the top floor, which is offices. No interior walls, no gas, there is electricity. The building's pretty high, so no one would have a window view of us, and the greenhouse is set back, so it could be worse. It makes me think of being in a fishbowl though." Tony pauses, then adds, "Questions, comments, or on to the next?"

Re: Later, at the table
Dylan looks thoughtful. "I'd prefer a place with a tub, but it's a definite possibility." He grins a little self-consciously. "Nothing like a long soak, you know?"

Re: Later, at the table
Alan eyes Dylan and grins. "If you don't mind company, we looked at a place with a hot tub."

Tony nods. "It's a big wooden tub, with seats someone added when they modified it from whatever it was for originally. Big enough for all of us. There's a shower sized to share too. It's the top floor of an old narrow brick building. Lots of windows, all arched. Most of the rooms go all the way across the building. Kitchen's big. One bedroom, though we could use the front room as another bedroom and the dining room as living space. Biggest disadvantage is it's the fourth floor and there's only stairs."

Alan adds, "And someone was murded there."

Re: Later, at the table
"It doesn't bother me, but it seems only fair to tell Dylan up front," says Alan.

"I'd claim I was upset with it, but Alan knows better," says Tony. "But there is another place with a hot tub. Comes furnished, rugs, big beds, big screen tv, modern kitchen with an island, large bathroom. It's a beautiful apartment. Plus there's a pool and excercise room in the building."

"For photographers and models only," says Alan. "You have to sign a contract to work for the agency to get the apartment, and for two people, you don't end up with anything to spare once you figure in food and stuff."

"But with Dylan, there'd be three of us," says Tony.

"I'd rather have a place without entanglements," says Alan, "But if Dylan is willing to consider it, I'll go look at it with the two of you."

"Okay," says Tony. "But I still think it's no different than the place where we'd be caretakers."

Alan looks like he's about to say something back to Tony, but stops himself and turns to Dylan. "What do you think? You willing to consider doing some modeling to get an apartment?"

"At least enough to look at the place?" Tony adds hopefully.

Re: Later, at the table
Dylan brightens at this part of the conversation. "I'd be okay with modeling," he says. "I've done some dancing, but it's..." he coughs delicately, "not really the sort of stuff you want to put on a 'respectable' resume." Blush. "That's part of why I got the job at the spa."

Re: Later, at the table
Alan eyes Dylan with interest and Tony beams happily. "Awesome! I'm so glad you're willing to give it a try," Tony says. "Now if only Alan would agree...."

"Hang on, I said I'd go look," says Alan. "And besides, it's different with Dylan's modeling. Before I would have been doing it alone, and I would have felt funny." He gives Dylan a smile. "Besides, you've got some experience in entertainment. I'd be happy to work with you, if you don't mind a complete amature."

"You'll both be fine," says Tony.

"And we've got a plan for apartment hunting," says Alan. "We'll go look at Tony's place when Dylan's free."

Alan gins. "And now, desert!"
