After the show

After the show lets out, Johnathan Winters looks for Heather. Once he finds here and is sure no one else is listening, he tells her quietly, "I've got my own room. Meet me there when you're free and you can spend the night with me." He grins and gives her his room number.

Mindful of the discussion she and her sisters had with the captain's mother, Heather resolves to put the evening to good use.

When she enters the room, her usual grin is replaced by a serious expression. "Johnathan...we have to talk about some things." She takes a deep breath. "You remember that in our tribe, sisters share husbands, right?"

Judging from the room, Heather's statement isn't what Johnathan was expecting. The bed is covered with a hide with soft-looking, there's some flowers in a vase, and there is a cone of incense burning in a tiny brass tripod incese burner. Johnathan is clean looking and shirtless, showing his scars and muscle.

"Um, yes. I think that came up when we were with Jack and Marigold," he says, looking a bit perplexed. "I figured it was okay. Jack's like a younger brother to me, and he only has eyes for Marigold."

Heather swallows, then plunges ahead. "Did I ever tell you about the groom price?" She takes a deep breath. "When sisters pick a husband, they pay a groom price to his mothers. When they get married, the groom price goes to the husband, so he has something of his own, to pass on to their children." Her forehead crinkles. "You said you didn't know your mothers, so it's going to be hard to set your groom price." She sighs. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you before. Talking to the captain's mother made me remember."

"It's okay," Johnathan replies. He flashes a grin. "It's not like I think along those lines when I see you."

"But there's also Jack. He and I are both earning our own money, so maybe we can put together our own money. But if we still need mothers... Can't be your sisters, the Madam is out and no disrespect to our Ship's Carpenter, but I wouldn't trust her to hang onto my money, nor Jack's. Hm..."

"Pearl and Miss ? Trelawney," says Johnathan, stating the full hypenated name. "Pearl's nice and she set us up, and her friend has a head for money. Can't pay them much..."

"Heather," Johnathan asks. "What happens to Mothers when they get old, like when the youngest are old? Do they move in with their kids? If jack and I adopt Mothers, can we promise them we'll take care of them when they get old?"

Heather's face lights up at Johnathan's suggestion. "Pearl and Miss Pethwick-Trelawny? That's a wonderful idea!"

"What happens to Mothers when they get old, like when the youngest are old? Do they move in with their kids? If jack and I adopt Mothers, can we promise them we'll take care of them when they get old?"

"Don't worry," she says, giving him a reassuring smile. "In our tribe, the whole family lives together, in one caravan. Mothers, father, sisters, husbands and kids...sometimes uncles, cousins and grandmothers, too. So you don't have to worry about who takes care of Mothers when they get old - the whole family does."

Johnathan smiles. "So we can promise Pearl and Miss Pethwick-Trelawny that if they adopt me and Jack and act as our Mothers, they have a place to stay when they get old. So they get something out of it too."

He eyes Heather. "So... I found this pelt which has soft fur. It felt so nice when I stroked it with my hand. He grins. "Should we find out how it feels on other parts of us?"

((OOC fade to black?))
